Mismatched Prostate Cancer Treatments Are More Common Than Expected
Thursday, November 29th, 2007
More than one third of men diagnosed with prostate cancer in the early stages end up making medically inappropriate treatment choices. A new study reports that these treatment âmismatchesâ could likely be a result of a patientâs unwillingness to discuss pre-existing conditions with their doctor.
The study was led by Dr. James Talcott of the Center for Outcomes Research at Massachusetts General Hospital. âProstrate cancer patients experience the same fears and hard decisions as all cancer patients do but prostate cancer treatment directly affects very personal things that most people arenât comfortable talking about â urinary, bowel and sexual function,â says Talbot.
Thanks Dad: Attractiveness is Hereditary
Wednesday, November 28th, 2007
(Ivanhoe Newswire) — Brad Pitt, George Clooney and fruitflies. They all have something in common: good genes. A new study reports attractive male fruitflies can pass their attractive traits on to their male offspring. And the trend may hold true for other species, too.
Researchers at the University of Exeter in Cornwall, England observed the mating behavior of fruitflies. They matched males and females together at random to see how long it took for the pairs to mate. The length of time it took them to mate ranged from two minutes to two hours. Female fruitflies must make themselves available to mate, so males cannot force the process. Researchers used the time taken for the pairs to mate as an indication of the maleâs perceived attractiveness by the female.

viagra, levitra, Cialis or some other ED treatment drugs like Kamagra, Silagra, Zenegra or Caverta all work in the same principle i.e. increase blood flow to the penile tissues. After the infusion of any of these drugs in a patient’s body, upon sexual arousal, blood flow to the penile tissues increases which helps one get penile erection and maintain it.

Thursday, November 1st, 2007
(Ivanhoe Newswire) — Radiation seed implants (brachytherapy) may be the best option for men with prostate cancer.

Results show income inequality is a very real threat to Men’s health. Researchers report income has a bigger influence on death in wealthier countries in people between ages 15 and 29. Worldwide, the impact is most seen in people between ages 25 and 39.
Research Benefits Intersex Individuals
Thursday, October 18th, 2007
(Ivanhoe Newswire) — New research reveals it may soon be possible to assign a gender to intersex people whose genital phenotypes and sex chromosomes donât match.
For the first time, researchers from the United States and Germany have found testosterone leaves an irreversible molecular âsignatureâ in cells. The finding, they report, offers a clearer picture of sex than does relying only on the presence of a Y chromosome.
For this research, scientists compared people with complete androgen insensitivity syndrome (CAIS) to people without CAIS. Androgen insensitivity syndrome results when a person who is genetically male is resistant to androgens (male hormones). The person is left with some or all of the physical traits of a woman, despite having the genetic makeup of a man.
Gender Makes a Difference in Insulin Resistance
Thursday, October 11th, 2007
(Ivanhoe Newswire) — Parents have a new reason to foster Men’s healthy lifestyle habits in their daughters.
British researchers who tested blood samples taken from umbilical cords found girls are born with a greater tendency for insulin resistance than boys. Insulin resistance is a key factor leading to the development of type 2 diabetes, a disease thatâs increasing in prevalence among youngsters who are overweight or obese.
The study was sparked by research suggesting insulin resistance is different in boys and girls but cannot be adequately explained by differences in weight or physical activity levels. A previous study conducted among British and Indian children speculated the explanation may lie in the womb, leading investigators to test for insulin resistance on cord blood samples.
