Eva Longoria Sex Tape, Desperate Housewives Rumours
Saturday, October 6th, 2007

It’s been the big rumor on the internet for days - a supposed sex tape of ‘Desperate Housewives’ star, Eva Longoria. Rumours are rife that a video of the diminutive actress and her NBA star husband Tony Parker was reportedly stolen from her home and leaked online, according to the Sun. The explicit tape, which has already started appearing on pay-per-view adult websites, features intimate footage of the newlyweds. If the tape is genuine, it is tipped to become the biggest sex tape unearthed since Paris Hilton’s One Night in Paris.

The 2007 Folsom Street Fair was billed as having “fairgrounds filled with people in their most outrageous leather/rubber/fetish attire.” It benefits a number of local charities.
Fine-tuning the thought process (book excerpt: How Doctors Think)
Friday, October 5th, 2007On a spring afternoon several years ago, Evan McKinley was hiking in the woods near Halifax, Nova Scotia, when a pain in his chest stopped him in his tracks. McKinley was a [Canadian] forest ranger in his early 40s, trim and extremely fit, with straw-blond hair and chiseled features. He had had a growing discomfort in his chest for the past few days, but nothing as severe as this. He wasn’t sweating or lightheaded, and didn’t feel feverish. But each time he took a breath, the pain got worse. McKinley slowly made his way back through the woods to the shed that housed his office. He sat and waited for the pain to pass, but it didn’t. As a forest ranger, he was used to muscle aches from scaling a steep rocky trail or jogging with a loaded pack on his back. But this was different, and he decided he should see a doctor immediately.
MTV Launches Activist Network
Friday, October 5th, 2007Here is a new site by MTV - think.mtv.com. They have various videos and links that of course feature artists and also non-artist involvement. MTV can clearly be a powerful motivator, their engagement is interesting and a testament to the hipness of being involved in social causes or at least giving that perception. Let’s hope this does well and gets a younger generation mobilized, screen shots and description below (along with a Jay Z video of him at the UN, click on the picture):

More Web 2.0: Power of Online Social Networks
Tuesday, July 31st, 2007We have blogged about the power of online social networks before as have many other bloggers. The Wall Street Journal has a brief review on online social networks and cause marketing that you can see below. For those of us in the public health space, we should be taking notes on how to leverage these ideas and what’s around the corner for reaching out to people (for education, involvement, philanthropy, documenting disease trends, etc.). This may not be directly related to global health yet or promoting a favorite cause, but check out the growing popularity of PatientsLikeMe (a social networking site of sorts where patients can discuss how they managed their conditions… and perhaps they can add a feature down the line for raising funds for a particular disease?).
