Family structure size could affect breast cancer risk prediction
Monday, March 12th, 2007Researchers have found that the probability of the breast cancer gene mutation BRCA among women with a history of breast cancer is greater when the number of older, female relatives in the family is smaller, according to a study in the June 20 issue of JAMA. This finding may challenge the accuracy of some breast cancer prediction models, which may not take family structure into account.

Natural Moisturizers For Healthier Skin
Saturday, March 10th, 2007

Moisture content is the key ingredient in your skin that keeps it looking young. Healthy skin is about 10% water - whether it’s oily or dry - and drinking plenty of water will help keep your skin hydrated from the inside out. The main purpose of a moisturizer is to lock in the moisture with a surface film of oil. Dry skin lacks the fatty lipids which naturally seal moisture in the skin, but all skin types need soothing and protecting at some time. The key is to be guided by your own skin. If it feels dry and taut after cleansing, it needs moisturizing. However, oilier skins may only require moisturizing occasionally, or in certain areas, such as the neck and cheeks. Moisturizers are best applied after toning.

Hawaii ACLU Bids to Prevent Drug Testing of Teachers
Thursday, March 1st, 2007Mandating drug tests for public-school teachers in Hawaii would not only be a violation of privacy rights but also expensive and do little to address drug use, according to the state chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union.
The Honolulu Star-Bulletin reported Sept. 15 that the Hawaii ACLU plans to file a suit against the state, which recently signed a contract with the Hawaii teachers union that includes random and for-cause drug testing.
